In 2009 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Bandhu Tirkey was elected for a second term from Mandar seat on a ticket from JHJAM. He received 58,924 votes. His closest opponent was Deo Kumar Dhan who had fought on a ticket from Congress and received 28,953 votes.
