Daltonganj is one of the 81 assembly constituencies of Jharkhand under Palamu district and Palamu (Medininagar) division.
Daltonganj voted on November 30, in the first phase of the assembly election for the legislative assembly along with Chatra, Gumla, Bishunpur, Lohardaga, Manika, Latehar, Panki, Bhawnathpur, Bishrampur, Chhatarpur, Hussainabad and Garhwa vidhan sabha constituencies.
Sitting MLA Alok Kumar Chaurasiya is contesting for the Daltonganj seat this time as well with a BJP ticket. 15 candidates are in fray for the Daltonganj seat this time which includes former MLA Krishna Nand Tripathi.
Among the contenders are 6 independent candidates.
NCP's Vijeta Verma, JVM's Rahul Agarwal, BSP's Jagannath Prasad Singh, Shiv Sena's Santosh Kumar Dubey are among the contenders.
Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) had won the seat in 2014 with its candidate Alok Kumar Chaurasiya defeating the then sitting MLA Congress's Krishna Nand Tripathi by a margin of 4,347 votes.
Krishna Nand Tripathi had defeated BJP's Dileep Singh Namdhari in 2009 by a margin of 4,233 votes which was 2.88% of the total valid votes. In the last election, 1,378 out of 197389 valid votes were exercised under the NOTA option.
