Tamar Assembly seat is a part of Gumla-Singhbhum region in Jharkhand.

The sitting MLA from Tamar seat is Vikash Kumar Munda who was elected to the legislative assembly on a ticket from AJSUP. He received 57,428 votes. His closest opponent was Gopal Krishna Patar, who fought the election as an independent candidate and received 31,422 votes.
In 2009 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Gopal Krishna Patar was elected from Tamar seat on a ticket from JD (U). He received 30,678 votes. His closest opponent was Vikas Kumar Munda who had fought on a ticket from AJSUP and received 29,207 votes.
For the 2019 Assembly Elections in Jharkhand, AJSUP has fielded Ram Durlav Singh Munda, BJP has fielded Reeta Devi, and JMM has fielded Vikas Kumar Munda. There are total 17 candidates contesting elections from the Tamar assembly seat.
