The Sikaripara constituency voted on December 20 - the last phase of the Vidhan Sabha election in Jharkhand.
It is one of the 81 Assembly constituencies of the state.
The Sikaripara seat comes under the Dumka Lok Sabha seat. Sikaripara went to poll along with Borio, Barhait, Litipara, Pakaur, Maheshpur, Rajmahal, Dumka, Jama, Jarmundi, Nala, Jamtara, Sarath, Poreyahat, Godda and Mahagama constituencies.
The Sikaripara seat is exclusively reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
The seat has been a stronghold of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Nalin Soren, the sitting MLA of Sikaripara, has won the seat in three successive elections - 2005, 2009 and 2014.
In 2009 and 2014, Nalin Soren defeated the nearest rival Paritosh Soren, a Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) candidate by 24,501 and 1,003 votes respectively.
In 2014 out of the total valid votes registered from this constituency, 4,449 votes were given under NOTA option.
