Jaganathpur Assembly seat is a part of the Gumla-Singhbhum region in Jharkhand.
75 per cent population in this seat is rural and 25 per cent is urban. Under this assembly seat, 5.22 per cent population belong to scheduled castes (SC) and 63.51 per cent population belong to scheduled tribes (ST).

The sitting MLA from Jaganathpur seat is Geeta Kora who was elected in 2009 as well. Geeta Kora was elected to the legislative assembly on a ticket from JBSP. She received 48,546 votes. Her closest opponent was Mangal Singh Suren , who fought the election on a ticket from BJP and received 23,935 votes.
In 2009 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Geeta Kora was elected from Jaganathpur seat on a ticket from JBSP. She received 37,145 votes. Her closest opponent was Sonaram Birua from BJP who received 11,405 votes.
For the 2019 Assembly Elections in Jharkhand JVM (P) has fielded Mangal Singh Bobonga, BJP has fielded Sudhir Kumar Sundi, and INC has fielded Sona Ram Sinku. There are total 13 candidates contesting elections from the Jaganathpur assembly seat.
