Ranchi assembly seat is a part of the central region of Jharkhand and its 100 per cent population is urban.
In this assembly seat, 3.69 per cent population belong to scheduled castes (SC), and 13.73 per cent population belong to scheduled tribes (ST).
The assembly election for Ranchi seat was held in the third phase, on December 12, 2019.
The counting of votes will be held on December 23, 2019.
Ranchi Assembly seat has been a stronghold of BJP with BJP leader Chandreshwar Prasad Singh winning from this seat for the last three terms.
The sitting MLA from Ranchi seat is Chandreshwar Prasad Singh from BJP who received 95,760 votes in the 2014 Assembly elections. His closest opponent was Mahua Maji, who fought the election on a ticket from JMM and received 36,897 votes.
In 2009 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Chandreshwar Prasad Singh was elected from Ranchi seat on a ticket from BJP. He received 66,161 votes. His closest opponent was Pradeep Tulsyan who had fought on a ticket from INC and received 39,050 votes.
For the 2019 Assembly Elections in Jharkhand, BJP has fielded the sitting MLA Chandreshwar Prasad Singh, JMM has fielded Mahua Maji, and AJSUP has fielded Barsha Gari.
