Dhanwar assembly seat is a part of the central region of Jharkhand. 98 per cent population in Dhanwar is rural and 2 per cent is urban.
In this assembly seat, 14.04 per cent population belongs to scheduled castes (SC), and 5.95 per cent population belongs to scheduled tribes (ST).
The assembly election for Dhanwar seat was held in the third phase, on December 12, 2019.
The counting of votes will be held on December 23.
The sitting MLA from Dhanwar seat is Raj Kumar Yadav who was elected to the legislative assembly on a ticket from CPI(ML)(L). He received 50,634 votes. His closest opponent was Babulal Marandi, who fought the election on a ticket from JVM and received 39,922 votes.
In 2009 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Nizamuddin Ansari was elected from Dhanwar seat on a ticket from JVM. He received 50,392 votes. His closest opponent was Raj Kumar Yadav who had fought on a ticket from CPI(ML)(L) and received 45,419 votes.
For 2019 Assembly Elections in Jharkhand, CPI(ML)(L) has fielded Raj Kumar Yadav, BJP has fielded Lakshman Prasad Singh, JVM(P) has fielded Babulal Marandi, and JMM has fielded Nijamuddin Ansari.
