Chhatarpur is one of the five Vidhan Sabha constituencies of the Palamu district of Jharkhand and 81 constituencies in the state.
This seat is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category.
Chhatarpur went to polls on November 30, in the first phase of the general election of the Jharkhand legislative assembly along with Chatra, Gumla, Bishunpur, Lohardaga, Manika, Latehar, Panki, Daltonganj, Bishrampur, Bhawnathpur, Hussainabad and Garhwa Vidhan Sabha constituencies.
Former MLA Sudha Chaudhury contested for the seat this time with JDU's ticket. She had won the seat in 2009 by receiving 9,746 votes more than Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Manoj Kumar.
A total of 12 candidates are in fray for the Chhatarpur assembly seat this time. There are no independent candidate among the contenders.
BJP, which had won the seat last time, has pitched Pushpa Devi against 11 other candidates.
Radha Krishna Kishore, who had won the seat last time with a BJP ticket, is contesting this time with AJSU party's ticket.
In 2014, BJP's Radha Krishna Kishore had won the seat defeating the nearest rival RJD's Manoj Kumar by a margin of 5862 votes. A total of 11 candidates were in fray for the Chhatarpur seat last time. A
total of 4,903 votes were registered under the NOTA option in 2014.
