Gomia assembly seat is a part of the central region of Jharkhand. 73 per cent population in Gomia is rural and 27 per cent is urban.
In this assembly seat, 12.33 per cent population belongs to scheduled castes (SC), and 20.53 per cent population belong to scheduled tribes (ST). The assembly election for Gomia seat was held in the third phase, on December 12, 2019.
The counting of votes will be held on December 23, 2019.
The sitting MLA from Gomia seat is Babita Devi from JMM who was elected to the legislative assembly in the 2018 by-elections.
In the 2014 Jharkhand Assembly Election, Yogendra Prasad was elected to the legislative assembly on a ticket from JMM. He received 97,799 votes. His closest opponent was Madhav Lal Singh, who fought the election on a ticket from BJP and received 60,285 votes.
In 2009 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Madhav Lal Singh was elected from Gomia seat on a ticket from INC. He received 31,540 votes. His closest opponent was Yogendra Prasad who had fought on a ticket from AJSUP and received 23,237 votes.
For the 2019 Assembly Elections in Jharkhand, BJP has fielded Lakshman Kumar Nayak, AJSUP has fielded Lambodar Mahto, and JVM(P) has fielded Gautam Tiwari.
