In 2009 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Uma Kant Rajak was elected from Chandankiyari seat on a ticket from AJSUP. He received 36,620 votes. His closest opponent was Amar Kumar Bauri who had fought on a ticket from JVM and received 33,103 votes.
For the 2019 Assembly elections in Jharkhand, BJP has fielded the sitting MLA Amar Kumar Bauri, AJSUP has fielded Uma Kant Rajak, and JMM has fielded Bijay Kumar Rajwar.
