Jharkhand's Sarath constituency, situated in Deoghar district, voted on December 20 along with Borio, Barhait, Litipara, Pakaur, Maheshpur, Sikaripara, Dumka, Jama, Jarmundi, Nala, Jamtara, Sarath, Poreyahat, Godda and Mahagama constituencies for the Jharkhand Assembly election 2019.
BJP is currently representing the Sarath seat in the legislative assembly. Randhir Kumar Singh is the sitting MLA from this seat. He had defeated Uday Shankar Singh in 2014 by a margin of 13,901 votes.
Uday Shankar Singh had won the Sarath seat in 2005 and had represented the constituency in the Vidhan Sabha as an RJD candidate. He had defeated JMM's Shashank Sekhar Bhokta by 14,906 votes.
In 2009 Shashank Sekhar Bhokta won the Sarath seat defeating Uday Shankar Singh.
In the 2014 Assembly election, Uday Shankar Singh contested on a BJP ticket but lost to JVM candidate Randhir Kumar Singh.
After winning the Sarath seat, MLA Randhir Kumar Singh had joined the BJP.
Counting of votes for the Jharkhand Assembly election 2019 takes place on December 23.
