Jharkhand's Jama Assembly constituency voted on December 20 - the last day of the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha election. People from Jama constituency voted along with those from Borio, Barhait, Litipara, Pakaur, Maheshpur, Sikaripara, Dumka, Rajmahal, Jarmundi, Nala, Jamtara, Sarath, Poreyahat, Godda and Mahagama constituencies.
The Jama Assembly seat comes under the Dumka Lok Sabha constituency.
It is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
Jama has been a stronghold of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). In 2005, the current MP from Dumka, Sunil Soren was elected from the Jama vidhan sabha seat. He had defeated JMM's Durga Soren by 6,630 votes. The sitting MLA of Jama, Sita Soren is currently in the second term as a legislator. She has been representing the Jama seat as a JMM candidate since 2009.
In 2014 she defeated Suresh Murmuby a margin of 2,306 votes. She was among the 15 contenders for the Jama seat in the last election. Of the total votes registered in 2014 from the Jama constituency, 1,793 votes were registered under NOTA.
