In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Janardan Singh Sigriwal of the Bharatiya Janata Party was elected from the Maharajganj constituency in Bihar. He won with 3,20,753 votes defeating Prabhu Nath Singh of the Rashtriya Janata Dal by a margin of 38,415 votes.
In the 2013 by-election, Prabhunath Singh was elected from the constituency on a Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket. He received 3,81,452 votes, defeating Prashant Kumar Shahi of the Janata Dal (United) who received 2,44,326 votes.
In the 2009 general elections, Umashanker Singh of the Rashtriya Janata Dal won the Maharajganj constituency by securing 211610 votes (35.30 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency) , defeating Prabhunath Singh who contested on a Janata Dal (United) ticket and received 2,08,813 votes (34.83 per cent).
There are six assembly seats under the Maharajganj (Bihar) constituency: Goriakothi, Maharajganj, Ekma, Manjhi, Baniapur and Taraiya.
Voting for the Maharajganj constituency was conducted in the sixth phase of general elections 2019 on May 12.
For the 2019 general elections, Janardan Singh Sigriwal of the Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting against Anirudh Prasad of the Bahujan Samaj Party, and Randhir Kumar Singh of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
