Kishanganj Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 36 Lok Sabha segments in Bihar. It went to polls in the second phase of general elections 2019, on April 18.

About Kishanganj

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress candidate Mohammad Asarul Haque won from the Kishanganj seat in Bihar. Asarul Haque received 4,93,461 votes. His closest opponent was Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal from BJP who received 2,98,849 votes.

There are six assembly segments under the Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat. These include Bahadurganj, Kishanganj, Amour, Thakurganj, Kochadhaman, and Baisi. 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BSP has fielded Indra Deo Paswan, All India Trinamool Congress has fielded Javed Akhtar, and Dr. Mohammad Jawed is Congress' candidate. Syed Mahmood Ashraf will contest on a JD (U) ticket and AAP has fielded Alimuddin Ansari.

From the Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat, Jamilur Rehman from Congress was elected in 1971. In 1977, Halimuddin Ahmed from BLD was elected. Then Jamilur Rehman was elected again in 1980 and 1984 on a Congress ticket. 

Janata party candidate Syed Shahabuddin was elected in the 1985 by-polls. In 1989, MJ Akbar was elected on a Congress ticket. In the 1991 elections, Syed Shahabuddin won from Kishanganj on a Janata Dal ticket. 

In 1996 and 1998 Mohammad Taslimuddin, also from the Janata Dal, was elected from Kishanganj. In 1999, Syed Shahnawaz Husain won the seat for BJP. In 2004, Mohammed Taslimuddin was elected on an RJD ticket. This was followed by Mohammad Asarul Haque winning in 2004 and 2014 on a Congress ticket.
