About Nalanda

In 2014 general elections, Kaushlendra Kumar of Janata Dal (United) or JD (U) was elected from Nalanda Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 9,627 votes. Kaushlendra Kumar was polled 3,21,982 votes while his nearest rival Satya Nand Sharma of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) bagged 3,12,355 votes.

This is a second term for Kaushlendra Kumar as Nalanda MP. Before this, Kumar was elected from this seat in 2009 defeating LJP's Satish Kumar.

Former Union minister and one of the most prominent leaders of the socialist movement in the 1970s, late George Fernandes had represented Nalanda Lok Sabha constituency thrice, twice as a Samata Party candidate and once a JD (U) nominee. George Fernandes served as Defence Minister between 1998 and 2004. Apart from the defence ministry during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government, Mr Fernandes held several ministerial portfolios including communications, industry and railways.

Present Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was elected from Nalanda Lok Sabha seat in 2004.

Nalanda Lok Sabha constituency consists of Asthawan, Biharsharif, Rajgir (SC), Islampur, Hilsa, Nalanda and Harnaut assembly segments from Bihar state Legislative Assembly.
