Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency, one of the total 36 Lok Sabha segments in Bihar state, goes to the polls in the sixth phase of general elections 2019 on May 12.

About Gopalganj

In the 2014 General elections, BJP's Janak Ram registered victory on the Gopalganj seat in Bihar with 4,78,773 votes against Congress' Jyoti Bharti who received 1,91,837 votes. 

From the Gopalganj seat, Congress' Saiyed Mahmud registered victory in the 1952 and 1957 General Elections. In the Lok Sabha elections of 1962, 1967, and 1971, Dwarka Nath Tiwari won on a Congress ticket. Dwarka Nath Tiwari again won in 1977 General Election on a Janta Dal ticket. 

In 1980 Lok sabha election, Nageena Rai was elected who contested on a Congress ticket. In 1984, Independent candidate Kali Prasad was elected from Gopalganj. In 1989, Janta Dal candidate Rajmangal Mishra was elected followed by Abdul Ghafoor also from Janta Dal in 1991. In 1996 another candidate from Janta Dal, Lal babu was elected from this seat. In 1998, Abdul Ghafoor was elected and in 1999 Raaghunath Jha from JDU was elected. 

In 2004 Aniruddh Prasad from RJD was elected and in 2009 Purnamasi Ram from JDU was elected. 

There are six assembly seats under the Gaya constituency which include Baikuntthpur, Gopalganj, Kuchaikote, Hathua, Barauli, and Bhore. 

The General Election 2019 will be held in the sixth phase, on May 12, in Gopalganj. Dr. Alok Kumar Suman will be contesting on a JDU ticket from Gopalganj.
