About Jhanjharpur

In the 2014 general election, Birendra Kumar Chaudhary was elected from Jhanjharpur constituency in Bihar. He won on a ticket from the BJP with 3,35,481 votes. His closest rival, Mangni Lal Mandal from RJD, received 2,80,073 votes. 

From the Jhanjharpur seat, Dhanik Lal of the BLD was elected in 1977. In 1980 Dhanik Lal was elected again, but on a Janta Party ticket. In 1984, Gauri Shankar Rajhans was elected on a ticket from Congress. In 1989, 1991, and 1996 Devendra Prasad was elected on a Janata Dal ticket. 

In 1998, Surendra Prasad was elected on an RJD ticket. In 1999, Devendra Prasad from JDU was elected to parliament. In 2004 elections RJD's Devendra Prasad was elected, while in 2009 Mangni Lal Mandal won the election on a ticket from JD(U).

Under the Jhanjharpur parliamentary constituency, there are six assembly seats, namely Khajauli, Babubarhi, Rajnagar, Jhanjharpur, Phulparas, and Laukaha.

The 2019 general election will be held in the third phase, on April 23, in Jhanjharpur. While Ram Preet Mandal will be contesting from Jhanjharpur on a JD(U) ticket, Gulab Yadav will contest on a ticket from RJD. Lakshman Prasad Yadav from Republican Party of India has also filed his nomination from the Jhanjharpur seat.
