About Karakat

In 2014 general elections, Upendra Kushwaha of Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) was elected from Karakat Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 1,05,241 votes. Kushwaha, a former Union minister, was polled 3,38,892 votes while his nearest rival, Kanti Singh from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) bagged 2,33,651 votes.

In 2009, during the first elections held in this constituency, Janta Dal (United) or JD(U)'s Mahabali Singh was elected from this constituency.

Upendra Kushwaha had resigned from the Union council of ministers and quit the NDA in December last year before joining the RJD led-Mahagathbandhan.

In 2019 general elections, Karakat Lok Sabha constituency has 27 candidates including RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha and JD(U)'s Mahabali Singh.

Samajwadi Party has fielded party's national spokesperson Ghanshyam Tiwari in Karakat segment.

Karakat consists of Nokha, Dehri, Karakat, Goh, Obra and Nabinagar assembly segments from Bihar state Legislative Assembly.
