In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ajay Nishad was elected from Muzaffarpur in Bihar on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. He received 4,69,295 votes. His closest opponent was Akhilesh PD Singh from Congress who received 2,46,873 votes. Ajay Nishad won the constituency by a margin of 2,22,422 votes.
In 2009 general elections Muzaffarpur seat was won by Captain Jai Narayan Prasad Nishad of JDU. In 2004 general elections Madhubani parliamentary seat was won by George Fernandes of JDU and the runner up was Bhagwan Lal Sahani.
Muzaffarpur parliamentary constituency consists of six Vidhan Sabha seats these are Gaighat, Aurai, Bochahan, Sakra, Kurhani and Muzaffarpur.
Voting for Muzaffarpur seat was concluded in the fifth phase of elections on May 6.
In the 2019 general elections National Democratic Alliance has fielded BJP's Ajay Nishad and his rivals are Swarn Lata Devi of BSP, Anirudh Singh of All India Forward Block and Jauhar Azad of Bahu Jan Mukti Party.
