About Madhepura

In the 2014 general election, Rajesh Ranjan, who also goes by the name Pappu Yadav, was elected from Madhepura seat in Bihar. He contested on a ticket from RJD and received 3,68,937 votes. His closest opponent was Sharad Yadav who contested on a ticket from JD(U) and received 3,12,728 votes.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Sharad Yadav from JD(U) was elected from Madhepura. His closest opponent was Professor Ravindra Charan Yadav from the RJD.

In the 1977 general election, Bindhyeshwari Prasad Mandal from BLD was elected from Madhepura. In the 1980 elections, Rajendra Prasad Yadav was elected on a ticket from INC(U). In 1984, Mahabir Prasad Yadav was elected on a Congress ticket.

In 1989, Ramesh Kumar Yadav was elected from Madhepura on a ticket from the Janata Dal. Then in 1991 and 1996, Sharad Yadav was elected on a ticket from the Janata Dal.

In 1998, Lalu Prasad Yadav was elected on RJD ticket. In 1999, Sharad Yadav returned to parliament on a JD(U) ticket. In 2004, Lalu Prasad Yadav was elected again on an RJD ticket.

For the 2019 general elections 2019, Dinesh Chandra Yadav has been fielded by Janata Dal (United) and Sharad Yadav has been fielded by RJD.

There are six assembly segments under the Madhepura parliamentary constituency. These include Alamnagar, Bihariganj, Madhepura, Sonbarsha, Saharsa, and Mahishi.
