Hari Manjhi was elected from the Bihar's Gaya constituency in 2009 and was elected again in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He got 3,26,230 votes as against 2,10,726 votes received by his opponent Ramji Manjhi who contested the election on an RJD ticket.

About Gaya

Hari Manjhi was elected from the Bihar's Gaya constituency in 2009 and was elected again in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He got 3,26,230 votes as against 2,10,726 votes received by his opponent Ramji Manjhi who contested the election on an RJD ticket.

The seat was won by Congress candidates in the 1957, 1962 and 1967 Lok Sabha elections. Brajeshwar Prasad was elected in 1957 and 1962 and Ram Das won in 1967 elections.

In 1971 and 1977, Ishwar Chaudhary was elected from Gaya, once on Jan Sangh party ticket and again on Janta Party ticket. In 1980 and 1984, Congress’s Ramswarup Ram was elected twice. From 1989 to 1996, Janta Dal candidates Ishwar Chaudhary, Rajesh Kumar, and Bhagwati Devi were elected from Gaya.

In 1998 and 1999, BJP’s Krishna Kumar Chaudhary and Ramji Manjhi were elected. In 2004, RJD candidate Rajesh Kumar Manjhi was elected from Gaya constituency.

Under the Gaya parliamentary constituency, there are six assembly seats – Sherghati, Barachatti, Bodhgaya, Gaya Town, Belaganj, and Wazirganj.

The 2019 Lok Sabha Elections were held in Gaya in the first phase, on April 11. JDU has fielded Vijay Kumar Manjhi from Gaya, while Dilip Kumar contested on a BSP ticket.
