In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rashtriya Janta Dal's Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav won from Banka constituency in Bihar.

The Banka Lok Sabha seat has six Vidhan Sabha seats which include Sultanganj, Amarpur, Belhar, Banka, Katoria, and Dhoraiya. Out of these six assembly seats five Assembly constituencies are in Banka District and one (Sultanganj) is in Bhagalpur District. Katoria seat is reserved for scheduled tribe and Dhoraiya seat is reserved for scheduled caste candidates. 

The General Election 2019 in Banka constituency was held in the second phase, on April 18, 2019. As part of the NDA alliance, JD(U) has fielded Girdhari Yadav from Banka who will contest against the sitting MP Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav who will represent RJD.

In 1957 and 1962, Shakuntala Devi from Congress won from Banka constituency. In 1967, BS Sharma from Bhartiya Jansangha was elected from Banka. In 1971 Shiv Chandrika Prasad from Congress won from Banka. In 1977, Limaye Madhu from BLD was elected from Banka. In 1980, Chandra Shekhar Singh from Congress was elected. 

In 1984 Manorama Singh was elected with a ticket from Congress. From 1989 and 1991, Pratap Singh was elected and in 1996 Giridhari Yadav was elected. Both candidates were from Janta Dal. 

In 1998, 1999, and 2009 Digvijay Singh was elected from Banka constituency. In the 2010 bypolls, Putul Kumari, an independent candidate, was elected.
