About Jamui

In the 2014 General Election, Lok Janshakti Party's Chirag Paswan was elected from the Jamui constituency in Bihar. He was elected with 2,85,352 votes as opposed to 1,99,407 votes received by his nearest rival, RJD's Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhaskar.

In 1952, Prasad Sinha from Congress became the first Member of Parliament from Jamui constituency. From 1952 to 1967, Nayan Tara Das from Congress was elected to parliament. In 1971, CPI candidate Bhola Manjhi won the seat.

In 2009 General Election, JDU candidate Bhudeo Chaudhary was elected to parliament.

The Jamui constituency is reserved for scheduled caste candidates. Under the Jamui parliamentary constituency, there are six assembly seats - Tarapur, Shekhpura, Sikandara, Jamui, Jhajha, and Chakai. Among the parliamentary seats, Sikandara is reserved for scheduled caste candidate.

Jamui Lok Sabha seat was among the 91 seats that voted in the first phase. Chirag Paswan, the sitting MP, is also the son of party chief Ram Vilas Paswan. He is up against BSP's Upendra Ravidas and Bhudeo Chaudhary of the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party.

The Jamui district is one of the 36 districts of Bihar which have been recognised as economically dependent on special schemes of the government such as the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme.
