About Nawada

In the 2014 General Election, Giriraj Singh won from Nawada constituency in Bihar on a BJP ticket. He received 3,90,248 votes. His closest rival Raj Ballabh from RJD received 2,50,091 votes.

In 1957, Satyabhama Devi from Congress was elected the Member of Parliament from the Nawada seat. In 1957 and 1962, Congress' Ramdhani Das was elected twice to the Parliament. In 1977, Nathuni Ram from Bhartiya Lok Dal party was elected. In 1980 and 1984 Kunwar Ram from Congress was elected.

In 1989 and 1991 Prem Pradeep and Prem Chand Ram were elected on CPM ticket respectively. In 1996, Kameshwar Paswan won the Lok Sabha election on a BJP ticket. In 1998, Malti Devi from RJD won. In 1999, Sanjay Paswan from BJP was elected. In 2004, Virchandra Paswan won on an a RJD ticket. Since 2009, the seat has been with BJP candidates.

There are six assembly seats under the Nawada parliamentary constituency - Barbigha, Rajauli, Hisua, Nawada, Gobindpur, and Warisaliganj.

Nawada was among the 91 Lok Sabha seats that went to polls in the first phase, on April 11. Giriraj Singh has been challenged by LJP's Chandan Kumar and Vishnu Dev Yadav of the BSP.

Giriraj Singh, the sitting MP from Nawada, is BJP's candidate from Begusarai. He is up against student leader Kanhaiya Kumar who is being fielded by CPI.
