In 2014 general elections, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha was elected from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket with a margin of 2,65,805 votes. Sinha, who was the incumbent, was polled 4,85,905 votes while his nearest rival Kunal Singh of Indian National Congress (INC or Congress) bagged 2,20,100 votes.

Sinha, the incumbent MP who quit the BJP and joined the Congress on April 6, is now pitted against the Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in Patna Sahib seat.

Both Prasad and Sinha belong to the upper Kayastha caste, who are present in sizeable numbers in Patna Sahib.

Prasad and the BJP have left no stone unturned for his victory. Party President Amit Shah on May 11 held a roadshow to seek votes for the Union Minister.

Sinha, who is fondly known as 'Bihari Babu', also visited different localities and villages in the constituency despite the scorching heat. Even his wife, Poonam Sinha has campaigned for him in Patna.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi held a roadshow on May 16, urging voters to choose Sinha.

Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency consists of Bakhtiarpur, Digha, Bankipur, Kumhrar, Patna Sahib and Fatuha assembly segments from Bihar state Legislative Assembly.

Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, which was carved in 2008 after the delimitation process of parliamentary constituencies in India, was held on May 19 during the last phase of general elections 2019.
