Buxar Lok Sabha constituency, one of the total 36 Lok Sabha segments in Bihar state, goes to the polls in the seventh phase of general elections 2019 on May 19.

About Buxar

The sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from Buxar constituency in Bihar is Ashwini Kumar Choubey who won the elections with 3,19,012 votes. His opponent, Jagdanand Singh from RJD, received 1,86,674 votes. 

From Buxar constituency, in 1957 Kamal Singh won as an independent candidate. In the next Lok Sabha elections in 1962, Anant Prasad Sharma from Congress was elected who then won the seat again in 1971. In 1967, Ram Subhag Sharma, also from Congress, was elected. The seat was clinched by Bhariya Lokdal candidate Ramanand Tiwari in 1977. 

In 1980 and 1984, Congress' Kamalkant Tiwari was elected twice from the Buxar constituency. Th seat was then claimed by CPI (M) candidate Tej Narayan Singh twice in 1989 and 1991. BJP's Lalmuni Chaubey went on to win Lok Sabha elections from the Buxar seat four times from 1996 to 2004. 

In 2009, RJD's Jagdanand Singh registered victory from the Buxar seat. 

There are six assembly seats under the Buxar Lok Sabha seat which include Brahmpur, Buxar, Dumraon, Rajpur, Ramgarh, and Dinara. Rajpur assembly seat is reserved for scheduled caste candidate. 

The General Election 2019 in Buxar will be held in the last phase, on May 19, 2019. RJD's Jagdanand Singh will contest against the sitting MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey who will be contesting again on a BJP ticket.
