About Hajipur

The sitting MP from Hajipur constituency in Bihar is Ramvilas Paswan from Lok Janshakti Party who won with 4,55,652 votes against Congress' Sanjeev Prasad who received 2,30,152 votes. 

In 1957, Congress candidate Chandramani Lal was elected from the Hajipur constituency. In 1957 and 1962, Rajeshwar Patel, Congress candidate, was elected followed by Valmiki Choudhary who also won on a congress ticket in 1967. 

In 1971, Digvijay Narayan from Congress party was elected. In 1977, Ramvilas Paswan from Janta Dal was elected. In 1980 Ramvilas Paswan was elected again. In 1984, Ramratan Ram from Congress was elected from Hajipur. In 1989, Ramvilas Paswan won with a ticket from Janta Dal. 

In 1991, Ramsunder Das from Janta Dal was elected, and in 1996 and 1998 Ramvilas Paswan from Janta Dal was elected. 

In 1999, Ramvilas Paswan again won on a ticket from JDU. In 2004, Ramvilas Paswan won the seat for Lok Janshakti Party. In 2009, Ramsunder Yadav, JDU, was elected from Hajipur. 

Under the Hajipur parliamentary constituency there are six assembly seats - Hajipur, Lalganj, Mahua, Raja Pakar, Raghopur, and Mahnaar. 

The General Elections 2019 will be held in the sixth phase, on May 6, in Hajipur constituency. For the upcoming Lok Sabha elections LJP has announced Pashupati Kumar Paras as its candidate.
