In Wardha Lok Sabha constituency, which goes to polls on April 11 during the first phase of elections, Ramdas Tadas of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the 2014 general elections by defeating Sagar Meghe of Indian National Congress (INC) with a margin of 2,15,783. In 2014 elections, which were held for the formation of 16th Lok Sabha, BJP was polled 5,37,518 votes while Mr Meghe of INC bagged 3,21,735 in his kitty.
Wardha, a traditional Congress stronghold before the 2008 delimitation of the constituency, had sent Datta Meghe of INC to the Parliament in 2009 elections.
In the history of this segment, Vasant Sathe of Congress had won the seat thrice in 1980, 1984, and 1989.
On next election which happened in 1991, Ramchandra Ghangare of Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M) won the seat. Mr Bhangare is among few Left candidates who represented Vidarbha region in Lok Sabha. He won the seat in 1991 after losing the elections for three consecutive attempts from Wardha constituency in 1977, in 1980 and in 1989.
In 1996 BJP won the seat for the first time, but in 1998, Congress recaptured the Wardha constituency.
This Lok Sabh constituency has six assembly segments from Maharashtra Assembly, which include, Dhamangaon Railway, Morshi, Arvi, Deoli, Hinganghat and Wardha.
In Wardha constituency, there are 2,026 polling centres for 8.93 lakh male and 8.48 lakh female voters. Together there are 17.41 lakh voters.
