In 2014 general elections, Udayanraje P Bhonsale of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was elected from Satara Lok Sabha constituency with a huge margin of 3,66,594 votes. Bhonsale was polled 5,22,531 votes while Purushottam Bajirao Jadhav, an independent candidate, bagged 1,55,937 votes.
NCP has been winning from Satara Lok Sabha constituency in every general elections held from 1999 -- the party was formed in May this year.
The constituency had elected members from Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI) and Shiv Sena in the past.
The seat is witnessing an interesting contest in 2019 general elections with NCP's two-time MP Udayanraje P. Bhosale (he was elected in 2009 also), a direct descendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, locking horns with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Narendra Annasaheb Patil, a former Shiv Sainik.
One of the seats of the royal Chhatrapati family, Satara has 17,19,998 electorates, including 8,84,020 males and 8,35,978 females.
