Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 48 constituencies of Maharashtra. Chandrakant Khaire of Shiv Sena is the incumbent parliamentarian from this seat who has been elected from Aurangabad four times in a row. In 2014, Lok Sabha elections, he got 5,20,902 while Nitin Suresh Patil of Indian National Congress (INC) came second with 3,58,902 votes. Chandrakant Khaire defeated his nearest rival with a majority of 1,62,000 votes.
Before 1999, when Chandrakant Khaire had won the Lok Sabha elections for the first time, Ramkrishna Patil of Indian National Congress (INC) was the last candidate to represent the seat from a party other than the Shiv Sena.
The Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency has six assembly seats which are Kannad, Aurangabad Central, Aurangabad West, Aurangabad East, Gangapur, and Vaijapur.
This constituency will go to polls on April 26.
Besides Aurangabad, constituencies like Jalna, Pune, Satara, Ahmednagar , Sangli, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Raver,Aurangabad, Raigad, Baramati, Madha, Kolhapur and Hatkananglewill will go to polls in the third phase of general elections on April 23.
Maharashtra will vote in four phases.
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) party has fielded former journalist Imtiaz Jaleel, also a member of Maharashtra Assembly, in Aurangabad in alliance with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi-led by Prakash Ambedkar.
Imtiaz Jaleel was elected from Aurangabad Central Assembly constituency on a AIMIM ticket in 2014.
