Gadchiroli-Chimur is a reserved Lok Sabha constituency from the Maharashtra state which goes polls on April 11 during the first phase of general elections 2019. Ashok Nete of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won this Lok Sabha constituency reserved for Scheduled Tribes by defeating Namdeo Usendi of Indian National Congress (INC or Congress) with a margin of 2,36,870.
Ashok Nete, who was on his second electoral innings from this seat, which was constituted on 19 February 2008 as a part of the implementation of new delimitation rules of parliamentary constituencies, polled 5,35,982 while his nearest challenger Namdeo Usendi polled 2,99,112.
In the first general elections held in this newly-formed constituency (2009), Ashok Nete lost to Marotrao Kowase of Congress.
Gadchiroli-Chimur (ST) Lok Sabha seat consists of six assembly constituencies from Maharashtra Legislative Assembly - Amgaon (ST), Armori (ST), Gadchiroli (ST), Aheri (ST), Brahmapuri and Chimur.
In Lok Sabha elections 2019, both of the major political parties (BJP and INC) have repeated their 2009 candidates.
The first phase of polling in seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra on April 11, had 116 candidates in the fray. Over 1.30 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes in the first phase.
In Gadchiroli-Chimur, there are 1,881 polling centres, where 15.80 lakh voters, including 7.99 male and 9.86 lakh female, are eligible to cast their votes.
Maharashtra votes in four phases and the results of whole 48 constituencies will be announced on May 23.
