Gajanan Kirtikar of Shiv Sena won the Mumbai North West constituency in the 2014 National election by defeating Congress's Kamat Gurudas with a margin of 1,83,028. Gajanan Kirtikar got 4,64,820 votes while Kamat Gurudas was able to secure 2,81,792.
Earlier, Gurudas Kamat had successfully fought the 2009 general elections, held after the 2008 delimitation of constituencies, which caused major geographical and demographical changes of the Lok Sabha segment.
Two big names in Indian politics had represented the Mumbai North West constituency before the 2008 delimitation, late Bollywood actor and Congress politician Sunil Dutt and Ram Jethmalani, famous lawyer and former Union Minister.
Sunil Dutt represented the constituency four times (1984, 1989, 1991, 1999, and 2004) under Congress's banner while Ram Jethamalani went to Parliament from this seat twice (1977 and 1980); first as a Janata Party MP and later as a BJP MP.
Six Maharashtra state Assemby constituencies come under Mumbai North West Lok Sabha seat; which are: Jogeshwari East, Dindoshi, Goregaon, Versova, Andheri West, and Andheri East.
Mumbai North West constituency will vote on April 29 for the 2019 elections.
