In 2014 general elections, Raju Shetty of Swabhimani Paksha (SWP) was elected from Hatkanangle Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 1,77,810 votes. Raju Shetty was polled 6,40,428 votes while his nearest rival Kallappa Awade of Indian National Congress (INC or Congress) bagged 4,62,618 votes.
In 2009 general elections, Raju Shetty had defeated former Member of Parliament (MP) from the same constituency, Nivedita Mane, who was a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) nominee then.
Mane was elected from this constituency twice in 1999 and 2004 general elections under the banner of NCP.
In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, two-time MP Raju Shetti, formerly part of the NDA but now with the Congress-NCP-led Mahagathbandhan, will take on Shiv Sena's Dhairyasheel Mane, son of former NCP MP Nivedita Mane.
The constituency has 16,30,598 voters, including 8,50,574 men and 7,80,024 women.
