Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has presented Budget 2009-10 in Parliament. He said that the mandate has been for equitable growth and the government would at the same time try to 'promote growth'.
Acknowledging that he is sensitive to the expectations of a young India, he said the government would 'lead the economy back to growth range of nine per cent per annum'. At the same time he highlighted that a 'single budget speech can't solve all our problems'.
To improve the infrastructure of the country, he said that investment in the sector would be increased to nine per cent of GDP by 2014'.
