In 2014 general elections, Bodhsingh Bhagat from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won the Balaghat Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Prdesh. He received 4,80,594 votes. His closest opponent was Hina Likhiram Kawre from Indian National Congress or INC who received 3,84,553 votes.

In 2009 general elections, K. D Deshmukh from BJP had won the seat. He received 2,99,959 votes. His closest opponent was Vishveshwar Bhagat from INC. He received 2,59,140 votes.

In 1971 general elections, Chintaman Dhivruji from INC had won from the Balaghat constituency. In 1977 general elections, Kacharu Lal Hemraj Jain from Republic Party of India was elected from this constituency.

In 1980 and 1984 general elections, Nandkishore Sharma from INC had won the seat from Balaghat. In 1989 general elections, Kankar Munjare, an independent candidate, was elected from Balaghat.

In 1991 and 1996 general elections, Vishveshwar Bhagat from INC was elected from Balaghat. In 1998 from Gauri Shankar Chaturbhuj Bisen from BJP had won the seat.

In 1999 general elections, Prahlad Singh Patel from BJP had won from the Balaghat Lok Sabha constituency. In 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Gauri Shankar Chaturbhuj Bisen from BJP had won the seat.

In 2019 general elections, there are 23 candidates contested from the Balaghat constituency including 10 independent candidates. BSP fielded Kankar Munjare, Ali M.R Khan contested on a ticket from Communisty Party of India. Dr. Dhal Singh Bisen was fielded by  Bharatiya Janata Party, and Madhu Bhagat was fielded by Indian National Congress. 

Balaghat Lok Sabha constituency has 8 assembly segments. These include Baihar, Lanji, Paraswada, Balaghat, Waraseoni, Katangi, Barghat and Seoni.
