Pak vs Taliban forces schools, colleges shut
NDTV Correspondent, Monday October 19, 2009, Waziristan

Schools and colleges in Lahore and Islamabad have been shut for a week, fearing a backlash of Pakistan's multi-pronged attack on militants in South Waziristan.

Meanwhile, Gen David Petraeus, head of the US Central Command, arrived in Pakistan on Monday for talks with army commanders.

Pakistani forces have made steady gains in Taliban strongholds in South Waziristan over the last 24 hours.

60 Taliban fighters have been reportedly killed in the offensive, which has taken the lives of five security personnel and wounded 11 others. More than 100,000 people have fled South Waziristan.

Army officials say the area is dotted with a lot of improvised explosive devices and mines.

In Lahore on Sunday, around two thousand people took to the streets against perceived American involvement in Pakistani affairs, and against the ongoing operation in South Waziristan.

The protest was organised by the Jamaat-e-Islami, a Pakistani Islamic political party, which was founded in Lahore and has its headquarters there.

Protesters waved banners and chanted anti-American slogans.

What is happening inside Pakistan and how they tackle their own security problem should not be our concern. Each nation free hand to destroy these kind of menace is meddled by whole bunch of other nations and so called human rights and amnesty international groups. If only the political parties there come together and elect a very powerful legitimate government they can eliminate this menace called Taliban, which is not going to happen in the foreseeable future. But what should worry India is the illegitimate way the governments are formed in India. Slowly the power of money, private armies of of local lords are ensuring the electoral victory and not the will of people. Now every state is forced upon by dynasty rules within their states like doctor MK's family rule in Tamilnadu. If this trend continues within India then Indian people should worry more about themselves than worrying about what is happening in Pakistan

I agree with Mr.Ravi's comment on Pakistani economical and educational condition..One thing Pakistani peoples should remember that is WHAT THEY WERE..BUT WHAT THEY ARE..I'm not emphasizing whole peoples, those who are involving in shut down schooling and college. What the poor Innocent student do? Pakistan should look for the prosperity of the peaceful nation. All Pakistani people should come in one platform then no one will blame them...Peaceful Pakistan and long love live Pakistan
