About Jodhpur

The Jodhpur lok sabha constituency will go to polls on April 29 in the fourth phase of 2019 general election. 1934194 voters have been registered in this constituency this time. The voting will be held at 1993 polling stations. Jodhpur lok sabha constituency consists of Phalodi, Lohawat, Shergarh, Sardarpura, Jodhpur, Soorsagar, Luni and Pokaran assembly seats.

In 2014 general election, the voter turnout in Jodhpur constituency was 62.50%. A total of 15085 votes were exercised under NOTA option.

Jodhpur is as much a Congress bastion as it is a BJP forte. While Congress has represented the constituency in the parliament more number of times, but BJP has been a stellar performer since 1999. In 1989 the BJP had won the Jodhpur seat.

In 2014 election, Gajendrasingh Shekhawat won the seat for BJP by a margin of more than 4 lakh votes. Congress received the second highest majority in vote counts. Congress had regained the Jodhpur seat, in 2009, after losing it for two terms. Congress has won the seat for seven times.

Aiming for a second consecutive term, alike to the 2009-2014 stint, BJP is fielding sitting MP Gajendrasingh Shekhawat.

Congress is pitting Vaibhav Gehlot, son Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, against the incumbent MP. Congress leader Ashok Gehlot had won the Jodhpur seat 5 times, including two and three consecutive terms.

Among other contestants for the Jodhpur constituency are-Mukul Chaudhary (Bahujan Samaj Party), Amar Singh Kalundha (Bharatiya Tribal Party), Anil Joya Meghwal (Independent), Chand Mohammad (Independent), Tasleem (Independent), Moda Ram Meghwal (Independent), Vishek Vishnoi (Independent) and Shambhu Ram (Independent).
