About Ajmer

One of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Rajasthan, the Ajmer constituency will go to polls on April 29, in the fourth phase of 2019 general election. Ajmer is among the 13 constituencies in the State to vote on the same day. Rest of the constituencies will vote on May 6 in the fifth phase of 17th Lok Sabha polling. 1862158 electorates have been registered in this constituency for the 2019 election which will be held at 1951 polling stations. The voter turnout in Ajmer constituency during the last time was 68.73%.

A total of 72 constituencies in 9 States will exercise their franchise in the fourth phase of the general election. A total of 127958477 voters have been registered in these constituencies among which are 4126 third gender voters, 67322777 male voters and 60631574 female voters.

The Ajmer Lok Sabha constituency consists of Dudu, Kishangarh, Pushkar, Ajmer North, Ajmer South, Nasirabad, Masuda and Kekri assembly seats. The Dudu and Ajmer South assembly seats are reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category.

Bhagirath Chaudhary and Riju Jhunjhunwala will lock horns for the Ajmer seat with BJP and Congress tickets, respectively. Congress is the ruling party in the State. The party had won the seat in 2018 through a by-poll which was held after the elected MP Sanwar Lal Jat passed away in 2017. Sanwar Lal Jat was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from Ajmer constituency.

Raghu Sharma is the incumbent MP from Ajmer constituency.

BJP had defeated Congress in the 2014 general election by a margin of 171983 votes. Rajasthan's Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot had contested for the Ajmer seat in 2014 election and had garnered the second majority vote counts. Mr Pilot was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from this constituency.

Among other contenders for the Ajmer seat are-Durga Lal Regar (Bahujan Samaj Party), Vishram Babu (Ambedkarite Party of India), Pramod Kumar (Independent), Mukesh Gena (Independent) and Soniya Regar (Independent).
