About Anakapalli

The Anakapalli Lok Sabha constituency of the southern State Andhra Pradesh voted on April 11 along with other constituencies in the State. The constituency consists of seven assembly segments-Chodavaram, Madugula, Anakapalle, Pendurthi, Yelamanchili, Payakaraopet and Narsipatnam-out of which the Payakaraopet seat is reserved for the scheduled caste category.

Once a Congress bastion, the Anakapalli seat had witnessed fierce battle between Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the past. While TDP has won the seat in 2014, 2004, 1999, 1996 and 1984, the Congress was able to retain the seat in 1989, 1991, 1998 and 2009. 

Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao won the seat in 2014 general elections.

In the 2014 general election in Anakapalli constituency the winning TDP party got 5,68,463 votes, the runner-up YSR Congress party got 5,20,531 votes.

This time Adari Anand Kumar, son of Vishakha Dairy Chairman Tulasi Rao, is contesting for the Lok Sabha seat with a TDP ticket.

BJP has fielded Dr. Gandi Venkata Satyanarayana Rao as its candidate.

YSR Congress party candidate Dr. Beesetti Venkata Satyavathi and Congress nominated Ruthala Srirama Murthy are also in the race for the Anakapalli seat.

In total 10 candidates are contesting for the seat. Parties like CPI (ML) Liberation, Jana Jagruti Party, Janasena Party, Pyramid Party of India and Dalita Bahujana Party are also contesting in the 17th Lok Sabha election from the Anakapalli seat.
