Live : Srikakulam Assembly Election 2023

Srikakulam Lok Sabha constituency comprises 7 assembly segments-- Ichchapuram, Palasa, Tekkali, Pathapatnam, Srikakulam, Amadalavalasa and Narasannapeta. Srikakulam along with all other constituencies in Andhra Pradesh voted in the first phase of 17th Lok Sabha election on April 11.

Srikakulam has been witnessing Congress, TDP tussle since 1971.  Congress had a stronghold on this constituency earlier as well, except in 1967 general election when Swatantra Party won the seat.

Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao was elected to the Lok Sabha from this seat for six terms. In his first election, in 1952, he contested as an independent candidate. He was nominated by the Congress party till 1980. In 1989, after losing a term to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Congress fielded Vishwanatham Kanithi as its contesting candidate from the Srikakulam seat. Congress retained the seat till 1996 election and again came to power in 2009.

In 2014 TDP candidate Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, son senior TDP leader Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu, had won the seat defeating the Reddy Shanthi of YSR Congress party. While TDP received 5,56,163 votes YSR Congress party came second with 4,28,591 votes. 

This time, the ruling party has nominated the sitting MP, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu for the Srikakulam seat. 

Among the other key contestants are Dola Jagan from Congress, Duvvada Srinivas from YSR Congress and Perla Samba Murthy from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 

A total of 11 candidates are in fray for the Srikakulam Lok Sabha seat among which 3 are independent candidates. Regional parties like Pyramid Party of India and Janasena Party are also contesting for the seat. 

In the 2014 general election, 0.58% votes in this constituency were registered under NOTA.
