About Vizianagaram

The Vizianagaram Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh will vote on April 11 in the first phase of 2019 general election. The constituency went to polls for the first time in 2009 after its formation in 2008 following the implementation of delimitation of parliamentary constituencies. It comprises seven segments - Etcherla, Rajam, Bobbili, Chipurupalli, Gajjapathinagaram, Nellimarla and Vizianagaram. The seat along with the other 24 constituencies in Andhra Pradesh voted in the first phase on April 11.

Sitting MP and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati is contestiing for the Vizianagaram Lok Sabha seat this time. He had received 5,36,549 votes in the last election and was ahead of his nearest rival, YSR Congress candidate V.S.C.K.K Rangarao Ravu, by 1,06,911 votes. 

Among the other key contenders for the Vizianagaram Lok Sabha seat are Congress nominated Adiraju Yedla, YSR Congress party candidate Bellana Chandra Sekhar and BJP contender Sanyasiraju Pakalapati.

Among the regional parties, Samaanya Praja Party, Andhra Chaitanya Party, Janasena Party, Jana Jagruti Party and Pyramid Party of India have also nominated candidates for the Vizianagaram Lok Sabha seat.

Congress had won the first election in this constituency in 2009, defeating TDP by a margin of 60 thousand votes.

In the last election, YSR Congress party had the second majority votes. The, then sitting MP Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi, had lost the seat by a wide margin of more than 4 lakh votes. More than 6,000 votes were registered under NOTA.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Naru Simhadri Naidu had received 2,505 votes last time.

A total of 14 candidates are contesting for the Vizianagaram Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 general election. 5 candidates have filed nominations as independent candidates.
