Seven assembly segments of Nellore Lok Sabha constituency-Kandukur, Kavali, Atmakur, Kovuru, Nellore City, Nellore Rural, Udayagiri- have exercised their franchise on April 11 in the first phase of 2019 general election.

Congress party has won the Nellore seat 12 times till 2012 by election.

YSR Congress candidate Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy defeated his nearest rival Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Adala Prabhakara Reddy in 2014 general election by a margin of 13 thousand votes. Mr Reddy is in his third term as an elected MP from this seat, which includes a victory in 2012 by-election. He left Congress party before the 2012 by-election.

However this time ruling party YSR Congress has fielded Adala Prabhakar Reddy who had contested from the seat with a TDP ticket last time. Meanwhile TDP has given the ticket to Beeda Masthan Rao. CPI (M)'s Chandra Rajagopal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sannapureddy Suresh Reddy are among the key contenders for the Nellore seat.

Congress party has nominated Chevuru Devakumar Reddy as its candidate from the Nellore seat.

TDP won the Nellore seat twice, in 1984 and in 1999.

In total 13 candidates, including six independent candidates, are contesting from this seat. Among other parties are Pyramid Party of India and Republican Party of India.
