Ongole Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election YV Subba Reddy from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) was elected. He won with 5,89,861 votes. His closest opponent was Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) who received 5,74,302 votes.

This seat has mostly been a Congress stronghold. In 1957, Ronda Narapa Reddy from the Congress was elected to parliament from Ongole seat. Then, Madala Narayanaswamy from Communist Party of India (CPI) was elected in 1962. In 1967, K Jaggaiah from the Congress was elected,

In 1971, Congress's Ankineedu Prasada Rao was elected to parliament from Ongole. In 1977 and 1980, Puli Venkata Reddy from the Congress was elected. In 1984, the TDP's Bezawada Papi Reddy was elected.

For the next four terms, Congress candidates were elected - Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy in 1989, Magunta Subbarama Reddy in 1991, Magunta Parvathamma Subbarama Reddy in 1996, and Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy in 1998.

In 1999, Karanam Balarama Krishna Murthy from the TDP was elected. In the next two elections, in 2004 and in 2009, Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy from the Congress was elected.

There are seven assembly sections in the Ongole Lok Sabha constituency. These are, Yerragondapalem, Darsi, Ongole, Kondapi, Markapuram, Giddalur and Kanigiri.

Ongole voted in the first phase of the 2019 general election, on April 11. While Sidda Raghava Rao is contesting this election on a TDP ticket, Dr Sirivella Prasad is Congress's candidate from Ongole. Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, who was elected to parliament on a Congress ticket, is YSRCP candidate this time and BJP has fielded Thoganti Sreenivasulu.
