About Nandyal

Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, S.P.Y. Reddy from YSR Congress Party was elected as the member of parliament here. He received 6,22,411 votes. His closest opponent was Mohammad Farook from the Telegu Desam Party, who received 5,16,645 votes.

In 1967 and 1971, P.V. Subbaiah from Congress was elected to the parliament from this constituency. In 1977, Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy from the Bharatiya Lok Dal was elected as the MP. In the 1978 by-polls P.V. Subbaiah from Congress was elected as the MP, who was elected again in 1980. In 1984, Maddur Subba Reddy from TDP was elected.

In 1989, Bojja Venkata Reddy from Congress was elected form Nandyal and in 1991 Gangula Prathapa Reddy from Congress won here. In the 1991 bye-election, the then Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao contested from the Nandyal seat. Getting elected as a member of parliament became necessary for him to remain in office as he had not contested the election that year; so he contested from Nandyal. 

Then in the 1996 General Elections, he contested from Nandyal again; but opted to forego the seat for Behrampur in Odisha where he won the election by a huge margin.

In the 1996 by-polls, TDP candidate Bhuma Nagi Reddy was elected as the MP in this constituency. Bhuma Nagi was elected again in 1998 and 1999.

In 2004 and 2009 S.P.Y. Reddy was elected to the parliament on Congress ticket.

There are 7 assembly sections in the Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency. These are Allagadda, Srisailam, Nandikotkur, Panyam, Nandyal, Banaganapalle, and Dhone.

The 2019 General Election in Nandyal was scheduled in the first phase, on April 11. For 2019 elections, Pocha Brahmananda Reddy is YSRCP's candidate, Mandra Sivananda Reddy is TDP's candidate. Adinarayana Inty will represent the BJP and Jangite Lakshmi Narasimha Yadav will contest on a Congress ticket.
