About Bapatla

Bapatla Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Malyadri Sriram from TDP was elected as the member of parliament. He received 5,78,145 votes. His closest opponent was Varikuti Amruthapani from the YSR Congress Party , who received 5,45,391 votes.

Over the years, voters have either chosen Congress or the TDP in the constituency. In 1977, P. Ankineedu Prasada Rao from Congress was elected to parliament from Bapatla seat. He was elected for a second term in 1980. In 1984, Chimata Sambu from Telugu Desam party (TDP) was elected.

In 1989, Salagala Benjamin was elected to the ninth parliament on a ticket from Congress. Then Daggubati Venkateswara Rao from TDP was elected to parliament in 1991 and in 1996 Ummareddy Venkateswarlu also from TDP was elected.

In 1998, Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy from Congress was elected. In 1999, Daggubati Ramanaidu from TDP was elected. Then in 2004, Daggubati Purandareswari was elected on a ticket from Congress and in 2009 Lakshmi Panabaka, also from Congress, was elected.

The 2019 General Election in Bapatla is scheduled in the first phase, on April 11. While the incumbent MP Malyadri Sriram will again contest on a TDP ticket, BJP has fielded Challagali Kishore Kumar, and Congress has fielded J D Seelam.
