In Andhra Pradesh's Rajahmundry Lok Sabha constituency, Murali Mohan Maganti of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) defeated Boddu Venkataramana Chowdary of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSR Congress Party or YSRCP)'s with a margin of 1,67,434 votes in the general election held in 2014. The TDP candidate got 6,30,573 votes while the YSRCP nominee got 4,63,139 votes.

A Congress stronghold till the 7th Lok Sabha, the Rajahmundry constituency later elected representatives of the TDP thrice, BJP twice and Congress four times to parliament.

Before 2014, Aruna Kumar Vundavalli of Congress represented the constituency twice.

Rajahmundry parliamentary constituency has seven Andhra Pradesh assembly segments. They are: Anaparthy, Rajanagaram, Rajahmundry City, Rajahmundry Rural, Kovvur (SC), Nidadavole, and Gopalapuram (SC).

For the 2019 national election, the TDP has replaced incumbent lawmaker M Murali Mohan with Maganti Roopa, his daughter-in-law while the YSR Congress Party has chosen Margani Bharat Ram, the first-ever Backward Class candidate aiming for the Rajahmundry parliamentary seat. Actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party has nominated Akula Satyanarayana, the legislator from Rajahmundry City, while the BJP has fielded Paravasthu Satya Gopinath Dasa.
