About Kakinada

The Kakinada Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State of Andhra Pradesh. It consists of seven assembly segments-Tuni, Prathipadu, Pithapuram, Kakinada Rural, Peddapuram, Kakinada City and Jaggampeta. The port town Kakinada will vote on April 11. 
Women voters outnumber men in this Lok Sabha constituency.

This time Sunil Chalamalasetty, who had contested in 2014 with YSR Congress ticket, has been fielded by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He joined the party in March. Sunil Chalamalasetty had lost the 2014 general election by 3,431 votes. He had also contested in 2009 and got 2,89,563 votes.

Once a TDP leader, Vanga Geethaviswanath will contest from the Kakinada seat with a YSR Congress party ticket, this time.

In 2014, TDP had emerged victorious by a narrow margin. Thota Narasimham succeeded Mallipudi Mangapathi Pallam Raju three-time elected MP from the Kakinada seat.

Congress had won the seat in 6 successive terms and again in 1989, 2004 and 2009. This time the party has nominated Mallipudi Sri Ramachandra Murthy for the Kakinada seat. In the last election, Congress received 19,754 votes. 

BJP, which has a weaker stand in the constituency, fielded Yalla Venkata Rama Mohan Rao (Dora babu) for the seat.

4,358 votes were registered under NOTA, in last election.
