About Rajampet

Rajampet Lok Sabha constituency consists of seven assembly segments-Rajampet, Kodur, Rayachoti, Thamballapalle, Pileru, Madanapalle and Punganur-out of which Kodur seat is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste. The Rajampet constituency will vote on April 11 in the first phase of 2019 general election.

Once a Congress bastion, Rajampet seat, has been won by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) twice in 1984 and 1999.

Sai Prathap Annayyagari was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Rajampet seat for four successive terms from 1989 to 1999 and again for two successive terms from 2004 to 2014. Sai Prathap Annayyagari got only 29,332 votes in the last election while winning party YSR Congress got 6,01,752 votes.

YSR Congress party candidate P. V. Midhun Reddy and the sitting MP of this constituency will once again contest this time. M. Shajahan Basha (Jaha) from Congress party and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate D.A. Sathya Prabha are among the key contenders for the Rajampet Lok Sabha seat.

Among other contestants are Asadi Venkatadri (Rastriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party), Karimulla Khan Pattan (Navataram Party), Khader Valli Shaik (Indian Union Muslim League), Syed Mukram (Janasena Party).

Among 9 contestants-- Naresh Kumar Poojala and Pasupuleti Venkataramana Royal-have filed their nomination as independent candidates.
