About Hindupur

The Hindupur Lok Sabha constituency has seven assembly segments-Raptadu, Madakasira, Hindupur, Penukonda, Puttaparthi, Dharmavaram and Kadiri-among which the Madakasira seat is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste. The voters in this constituency exercised their franchise on April 11 in the first phase of 2019 general election.

While Telugu Desam Party (TDP) plans to retain the seat by nominating the sitting MP, Congress party which has a stronghold in the constituency has fielded Kamaganahalli Thippeswamy Sreedhar alias KT Sreedhar as its candidate.

TDP has won the Hindupur seat for five terms and Congress has won the seat 10 times.

Incumbent MP Kristappa Nimmala is currently in his second term from Hindupur seat. In 2014 general election he won the seat defeating Duddukunta Sreedhar Reddy of YSR Congress by a margin of more than 97 thousand votes. An agriculturist and social worker, Kristappa Nimmala, started his political career as a Mandal President in local body elections.

YSR Congress which came in the second spot in 2014 election, has given ticket to Kuruva Gorantla Madhav, former Kadiri Circle Inspector.

Four out of nine contestants have filed their nomination as independent candidates.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Mitta Parthasarathi as its candidate for Hindupur lok sabha seat.

The Pyramid Party of India which received 0.26% of the total votes is contesting for this seat.
