About Eluru

Eluru is one of the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Maganti Venkateswara Rao from Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was elected from Eluru. He received 6,23,471 votes. His closest opponent, Thota Chandra Shekhar from YSRCP (YSR Congress Party), received 5,21,545 votes.

In 1957, Congress candidate Mothey Veda Kumari was elected to parliament. From 1962 to 1967 V Vimala Devi from the CPI (M) represented Eluru in parliament. For the next three terms, Kommareddi Suryanarayan was elected to parliament on a Congress ticket. In 1980, another Congress candidate, Chitturi Subbarao, was elected from Eluru. In 1984, the TDP's Bolla Bulli Ramaiah was elected.

In the 1989 national election, Ghattamaneni Krishna from the Congress was elected to parliament from Eluru. For the next two terms, Bolla Bulli Ramaiah was elected. In 1998, Maganti Venkateswara Rao from the Congress was elected followed by Bolla Bulli Ramaiah from the TDP returning to parliament from Eluru.

In the 2004 and 2009 national election, Congress's Kavaru Samba Siva Rao from the Congress was elected to parliament.

There are seven assembly segments under Eluru Lok Sabha constituency. These are Unguturu, Denduluru, Eluru, Polavaram, Chintalapudi, Nuzvid, Kaikalur.

In the 2019 national election, Eluru voted in the first phase, on April 11. Kotagiri Sridhar contested on a ticket from YSRCP. The BJP fielded Chinnam Rama Kotayya and Congress fielded Jetti Gurunadha Rao.
